Norway!

I arrived and didn't die a horrible screaming volcanic death!

Yay!

I must admit that when I saw on the in-flight planetracker thing that we were flying southeast of Iceland and northeast of England my palms started to sweat a little because you can definitely see a brown ashy haze out there somewhat obscuring the sunrise.

But we landed safely. Phew.

Just walking out of the terminal I noticed several giants.

I hopped on the super-efficient super-fast airport express train to downtown Oslo.

Followed signs toward the Freedom Forum HQ...

And arrived at my hotel...

All the event producers and coordinators were hard at work.

It's so nice to not really have to worry about anything and to just be able to wander around and capture candid shots. Event photography is fun because noone really has any major expectations except that you kind of just capture the event as it happens. It's kind of hard to mess up or do a crappy job. MUCH less pressure than shooting a wedding.

Today is kind of my day off before the event kicks off tomorrow.

I went to Ett Glass, the little restaurant next to my hotel.

Enjoyed a Pepsi Max.

And some homemade meatballs!

They were incredibly good.

And I was feeling so happy.

Until I saw the bill and it was 230 Kroners.

Which equals $38.90.

Almost $40 for Pepsi and meatballs. This wasn't even a "nice" restaurant.

NORWAY IS FREAKIN EXPENSIVE Y'ALL!!!

The Meatball Factory

If you've ever visited EggFurious, you know that I have a little thing for meatballs.

Tuesday night I got off my plane from New Orleans and went straight home to drop off my bags and then straight down the street to the Grand Opening of THE MEATBALL SHOP!!!!

I had been looking forward to this day for weeks now.

The menu is awesome and reminds me of Counter Burger in Santa Monica. You pick the type of ball you want - beef, spicy pork, chicken, salmon, or veggie.

Then you chose to have it on top of pasta, rice, mashed potatoes, veggies, plain, or on a sandwich or as little $3 sliders.

IT IS INCREDIBLE.

Connie ordered kale.

I actually went back the following night.

If anyone ever wants to go, gimme ring, I'm less than a block away!

YESSSSSSSSSS

The Meatball Shop

Lots of GREAT things have happened to me this past week. I think it's karmic payback for nice things I've done. Like flying Smileyjohn and Jesse to NYC. That's gotta be it.

And this is the icing on the cake.

Or the cherry on top of the ice cream.

Or the meatball on top of the pasta pile.

THERE IS A NEW MEATBALL RESTAURANT OPENING A BLOCK FROM MY HOUSE!!!

Thank you everyone. I KNOW. You can stop forwarding me the articles. I've gotten like ten and counting. And I am so super excited.

THANK YOU!!!!

From Urbandaddy.com

The Universe leads by example.

The planets, the stars, Penelope Cruz's backside—all perfect spheres.

Which leads us, naturally, to the rare and heavenly beauty of the meatball.

According to the Universe, its time has come...

Welcome to The Meatball Shop, devoted to the world's most well-rounded meal—literally—opening next week on the LES to satisfy your rambunctious late-night requirements for beer and spherical foodstuffs.

The latest in a line of tiny downtown eateries whose sole purpose is to aggressively and passionately dominate one slice of the comfort food universe (cannolis, poutine, mac and cheese, bottle service), Meatball is big, bright, open till 4am and decked out with light wood, subway tiles, mirrors and a giant 20-person rustic communal table at the center of all the action.

It's the kind of homey, hip farmhouse where you'll happily drop by to overindulge on a spaghetti/meatball/beer trifecta before (or after) wandering out into the regal wilds of the LES. Walking in, know that you'll be entering a world littered with all manner of esoteric yet comforting and addictive little balls of meat—spicy pork, veggie, chicken, salmon—that you can pair with various carb vessels like pastas (the aforementioned spaghetti and meatballs), breads (heroes and sliders) or...nothing.

Allowing the pure meatballness to shine through.

The Meatball Shop
84 Stanton St
(between Allen and Orchard)
New York, NY 10002
212-982-8895

IT IS LITERALLY. ON. MY. BLOCK.

It opens Tuesday February 9th. I return from New Orleans Tuesday February 9th.

You bet your ass I'm going straight there. I'm not even going to drop off my bags.

Whooooo wants to comeeee?????

Al Gelato

So after watching that video of the little baby chickens being thrown into the woodchipper I was never going to eat chicken again for the rest of my life/the week.

So we went to Al Gelato and enjoyed some wonderful meatballs and gnocchi.

Yum yum yum

After getting back to NYC from New Orleans and decompressing for a day, I ended up in Providence in front of an awesome meatball dinner at Al Forno.

Afterwards I drove up to Boston to get Lee, my new Boston buddy, drunk for his birthday.

We had fun and several drinks at Estate.

But after Lee dropped his entire drink on my shiny semi-new clownshoes I figured he'd had enough.

So we left and went to Jade Garden in Chinatown for late night Chinafood.

Mapo tofu...dumprings...And lo mein.

Yum.

I went over to Vitri's, took a three-hour nap, and then it was off to Logan Airport to pick up Annie and friends who were flying in from LA for Rach's wedding.

Wheee!
