Super-Ugh / LAX Celeb-sightings

So because of severe weather in Dallas my flight has been cancelled.

The next flight they can get me on is at 1245pm TOMORROW and it gets into Dallas at 6pm...so basically I miss the wedding I'm headed to, though I should get there just in time for celebrity wastedface.

I am committed to devoting every ounce of energy to getting there on time though, so I'm trying to fly standby on every flight leading up to the 12:45 one.

The first possible one I can get on is at 12 am tonight. So I'll be stuck in the airport here for at least 6-18 hours.

GROAN.....

I am, however, a firm believer in that old saying "When one door closes, another one opens." Plus you can always break a window or take an axe to the garage door...

So the silver lining here I guess is that I have AA lounge access and so I'll get to be in here spotting celebs as they travel through to their different destinations.

Already at the check-in counter I bumped into Madison B., new Season 4 cast member of Friday Night Lights.




She asked me if she could cut me in line because she was late for her flight to Austin (they're currently filming Season 5 there) and of course I let her cut in front of me and I told her I loved her show and she was super excited I recognized her because so far only the first episode has aired and this is her first big gig so she's still new to the "celebrity thing" and I said awesome I take headshots and I will take your headshots someday (if you're lucky). And she laughed and took my business card and we're totally like new bff.



THEN, in the AA lounge I spotted Russell Brand and Katy Perry.





2 hours down...4 to 14 more to go.

I am a beast.

I've caught up and finished the first three seasons of Friday Night Lights. All in about a week and one day.

The new season starts in about a month.

It's actually viewable online, since it originally aired on Direct TV, but I guess I'll wait until NBC starts airing it so I can watch it with other peeps.

It is taking a great amount of self-control though and I'm not sure I'll be able to do it.

And I wasn't able to stop myself from watching the new opening credits, which make me VERY upset.



I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THEM WEARING RED!

And WHERE is LYLA GARRITY???

Or even TYRA COLLETTE? (I hated her at first, but after her amazing college essay, she grew on me.)

We're stuck with LANDRY CLARKE (aka ugly albino Matt Damon) receiving top-billing after COACH, MRS. COACH, and TIM RIGGINS???

Something ain't right.

Season 3 makes me cry

*SPOILER ALERT* - If you have never watched Friday Night Lights but plan to, do not read past this point.

So one week after starting Friday Night Lights, I'm now halfway into Season 3. And a bunch of main characters are starting to be phased out as they graduate high school.

If you haven't gotten into FNL yet, watch the pilot already. You will be hooked.

So halfway into Season 3, Jason Street, one of the show's main characters from the very beginning, moves out of Texas.

He is, I think, one of the the most ground-breaking, heartbreaking, and inspirational characters I've ever seen on television; and it is his story arc (he's a former star quarterback who shatters his spine and becomes a quadriplegic) and his interactions with all the other characters that make FNL such a special show.



Scott Porter does such an incredible job playing Jason Street that last night I was re-watching the pilot (yes I am obsessed) and I found myself wondering if Jason or his parents or Lyla ever go back and wistfully re-watch the pilot or if it is just too much for them to handle, having to relive those last few beautiful moments before their lives changed forever.

Even though I was never a star athlete or anything close to it, I did spend a small part of last year in a wheelchair, and because of this, I feel like I identify with Jason and his struggle to come to terms with the fact that his life might never be exactly the same as it was. (Connie laughed at me the another night and said, "You are NOT Jason Street.")

Whatever.

I. Am. Jason Street.

But now, Jason has left Texas to make a name and life for himself out in the real world.

Friday Night Lights: Season 2

Still loving the show, but the second season is weetarded.

I'm on episode 8 and there are so many retarded storylines.

I hate Landry.

I hate Smash.

I hate the ferret-guy.

And Julie Taylor needs to be seriously slapped across the face more than just once.

Oh. Also I hate crazy-christian Lyla. (Though I still love Lyla.)

Season One: Complete!

So I finished Season One of Friday Night Lights in about two days and three hours.

Is that disgusting?

I don't care.

It was worth it.

It was so incredible.

Jason Street is my hero.

I love him more than Anne loves R-Patz.



And Lyla Garrity? She makes my heart hurt.

Minka Kelly looks just like Leighton Meester, but with serious acting ability. And her performance is consistently heartbreaking.



Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton play Coach & Mrs. Coach brilliantly. They have such a beautiful and real relationship. Love them.



And Tim Riggins, who looks like MattIsbell with dark hair... he makes some dumbass choices...but I can see him growing on me.



This show is SO good.

And part of why the show is so good is because of the way it is shot and acted.

The show’s producers decided at the outset to allow their performers flexibility in what they say and do on the show. Though scripted like any hour-long television drama, performers are given great leeway in the delivery of their lines and the blocking of each scene. If actors feel that something is not true to their character or a mode of delivery doesn’t work, they are free to change it provided they still hit the vital plot points.

The freedom that producers have extended to the performers is complemented by the fact that the show is taped without rehearsal and without extensive blocking. Camera operators are trained to follow the actors rather than actors standing in one place and having cameras fixed around them. This allows performers to not only feel free to make changes but to feel safe in making those changes because the infrastructure will work around them. Executive producer Jeffrey Reiner described this method as “no rehearsal, no blocking, just three cameras and we shoot.”

Working in this fashion has had a profound influence on everyone involved with the show, with series star Kyle Chandler (Coach Taylor) going so far as to say “When I look back at my life, I'm going to say, "Wow, [executive producer] Peter Berg really changed my life."” Executive producer and head writer Jason Katims echoes this sentiment saying “When I first came on [the ‘FNL’] set, I thought, it’s interesting — this is what I imagined filmmaking would be, before I saw what filmmaking was.

It has to be the best drama series since ER Season One.

Even just the opening credits...I watch them all the way through every episode because they are just perfection.
